The embryonic origin of Don Bosco Parish, Lingarajapuram, was the Sunday Oratory conducted by the Salesian Co-operators of the Provincial House, North Road, at the open play ground, opposite to the St. Charles Convent and School at Lingarajapuram. Gradually a second Oratory was started at St. Mary’s Orphanage ground, Da Costa Layout. In 1986, both the Oratories shifted to the premises in a rented house, belonging to artist V. Balan, behind the Banaswadi Railway Station. In 1990 a plot of land was bought by the Salesian Co-operators at the venue of the present Church with the money raised by them and with the help of a loan from the Archdiocese that eventually condoned the loan. The blessing of the site and the Laying of the Foundation Stone was done by Msgr. Joseph D’Silva who was the then Vicar General who became the Bishop of Bellary later. the construction of the multipurpose hall building was begun in 1992 with the financial support from Rev. Fr. Benito D’Souza, Adrian from Singapore, and other generous benefactors.
His Grace, Dr. Alphonse Mathias, the Archbishop of Bangalore blessed the new building on 26th August and celebrated the inaugural mass in the new hall that came to be known henceforth as Don Bosco Church. From then, Mass was being offered once a week, then more often and finally on a daily basis. Mass was celebrated in the morning and evening. The Don Bosco church was officially erected on 1st October 1996. The neighboring houses were purchased one by one progressively and we got a larger area along with the road that was between the 2 rows of houses bought. A new church was started, and it was blessed on the 25th June 2006, with the generous help of Mr. Victor S. Paul, our benefactor from Malaysia-Saba. the Architect was Niki Thomas and the Contractor was Mr. T.J. Thomas of Gina Engineering Company. An Assistant Parish Priest was also appointed in May 2006. All these years, this ministry was a part of the Provincial house Community. This became a regular independent house on 24th May, 2010.
